As well as having a successful performing career, including working with English National Opera, Scottish Opera and in Italy, Sweden, France, Portugal and throughout the UK Austin studied with eminent teachers and singers from Italy, America, Austria, Norway, Switzerland, France, Germany and the UK and at the Royal College of Music, London, Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and the Alexander Gibson Opera School, Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, and courses with the training, research, performance facility for singers OperaLab and English National Opera's ENO Operaworks course.
He was given workshops and masterclasses at the Cite International des Arts in Paris, St John's College, Durham University, Hull University, The University of York, and for OperaLab in Brussels. He is professor of singing at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance and an approved teacher and visiting teacher to Durham, Leeds and Hull universities. He has also given workshops in schools and the community for English National Opera as a member of ENO Opera Squad and for Berwick Festival Opera, Rocket Opera and appeared in education and unwrap performances and workshops with Scottish Opera.
During his career Austin has worked with world renowned conductors beginning with his professional operatic debut under Sir Charles Mackerras and directors including Deborah Warner and Martin Constantine as well as specialists in acting and movement for singers, improvisation and physical theatre practitioners. He has appeared as a principal on stage in opera alongside some of most renowned singers in the world.
Students include professional opera singers all over the world, musical theatre performers and those currently preparing for a professional performance career and many have gone on to work with opera companies and in concert all over the globe.
Austin is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, and a fellow of the Guild of Musicians & Singers as well as having a masters degree and diploma in opera from the RSAMD and a diploma from the Royal College of Music and he has an enhanced DBS.
